Market: Electric vehicles polish the balance sheet
SELLS The supply problems for new vehicles continue to have a firm grip on the Swiss auto market. Only a slow improvement can be expected for the rest of the second half of the year.
In the past calendar month of July, 15,656 passenger cars took to the roads of Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein for the first time. At that time, the number of new registrations was 19,422.
Lack of semiconductor products and disruptions in logistics chains continue to affect production at automakers and the delivery of vehicles.
Negative impact on the industry
Media spokesman Christoph Wolnik: "This market decline has enormous negative consequences for various players in the Swiss automotive industry, from suppliers and importers to authorized dealers and garages. In addition, customers must unfortunately continue to prepare for longer delivery times."
20,000 pure e-models after seven months
The cumulative market share of alternative drive systems since the beginning of the year is 49.5 percent. 61,945 of the 125,256 newly registered passenger cars are hybrid, electric, gas or hydrogen-powered. At 20,007, just under a third of these, or 16 percent of the total market, are purely battery electric. Together with the 10,808 plug-in hybrids that have hit the roads since the beginning of the year, the market share of plug-in vehicles is a high 24.6 percent.
