New registrations
From January to September, 32,365 motorcycles and 16,300 scooters were newly put into circulation.

New registrations of motorcycles have virtually exploded and settled at a high level in the third quarter. According to the Swiss Motorcycle and Scooter Agency, supply problems and the bad summer weather slowed down the encouraging market development, but did not stop it.

Electrically powered scooter in trend
The class up to 125 cm3 displacement, whose models, limited to 15 hp (11 kW) engine output, have now also been open to 16-year-old newcomers in Switzerland since this year, has developed into the strongest segment with 7604 newly redeemed motorcycles.

The electric age is making inroads into scooters used in urban areas and for short journeys. At 1563 units, electric scooters accounted for 9.6 percent of new registrations in the period from January to September.

New record after only nine months
The total market - including quads and trikes - rose to a new absolute record of 50,728 units. This means that the old record has already been exceeded after the first nine months of 2021.

These figures reveal a clear message: motorcycles and scooters are now more popular and more prevalent than ever before in Switzerland across all age and income groups.
