With 24,477 new passenger cars hitting the roads of Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein last month, June represents the strongest car month of the first half of 2020.
Skoda Octavia still clearly in the lead
As in May, the Škoda Octavia remains at the top with 542 new registrations, followed by the VW Tiguan (413). The BMW X3 was pushed off the podium. With 296 units, it only made it to sixth place in the top ten models this time.
Instead, the GLC-Class from Mercedes-Benz, still in fourth place in May, is among the three most popular models of Mr. and Mrs. Swiss, with 368 new registrations.
SUVs dominate the current rankings
VW narrowly missed out on the podium: 367 new registrations of the Wolfsburg-based carmaker's T6 minibus were registered, which is rewarded with the leather medal. Volvo (XC40, 330) follows in fifth place. Mercedes-Benz (A-Class, 293), VW (Golf, 286), Skoda (Karoq, 274) and VW (T-Roc, 259) complete the top ten.
What is striking about the model statistics in June is that SUVs dominate the rankings, with the exception of the two VW vehicles T6 and Golf, the Skoda Octavia and the Mercedes-Benz A-Class.
The first all-electric car, the Renault Zoe, ranks 19th in the June model statistics with 210 new registrations. In the January to June rankings, Tesla continues to rank third among the most popular models with the Model 3.
New registrations compared to 2019
However, Auto-Schweiz estimates that only around 240,000 new passenger cars will be registered by the end of the year. This would correspond to a drop of 23 percent or around 70,000 fewer new registrations compared to 2019.
