Demand for vans, trucks and passenger transport vehicles was thus up another 0.1 percent, or 314 units, on the record year of 2017. auto-schweiz's goal of maintaining this high market level in 2018 has thus been achieved. However, the individual segments developed differently.
Total weight of 3.5 tons in demand
Demand was particularly strong for delivery vans and light semitrailer tractors weighing up to 3.5 tons. This is an indication of the good economic situation in the past year and the need of the economy for appropriate transport vehicles. In particular, craft businesses, other SMEs and companies from the CEP sector (courier, express and parcel services) are increasingly relying on vehicles from this segment.
In the highly volatile market for trucks, the achieved number of new vehicles of 4389 remains high, even if the record level of 2017 - the best year of the decade - was missed by 4.3 percent or 197 registrations.
Schweizer family relies on camper
The same applies to passenger transport vehicles. Once again, campers, buses and cars surpassed the 5,000 mark by 19 registrations. As in the previous year, four out of five registrations in this segment came from campers. With 4006 new camper vans, the record figure from the previous year was also missed here by just 11 registrations, or 0.3 percent.
