Market: Modern diesel important factor

NA FINALLY The share of diesel engines in new passenger cars has bottomed out and left behind. This is shown by the latest figures for new registrations in November 2018. Of the 24,103 vehicles registered for the first time (down 9.9 percent on the same month last year), 30.0 percent (7241) had a diesel engine under the hood. For the year as a whole, too, the figure stands at 29.9 [...]

Of the 24,103 vehicles registered for the first time (down 9.9 percent on the same month last year), 30.0 percent (7241) had a diesel engine under the hood. The figure for the year as a whole is similar, with diesel accounting for 29.9 percent of the 272,177 passenger cars registered. Thanks to state-of-the-art engine technology, demand for diesel engines has stabilized. It is and will remain an important factor in achieving the CO2 targets in the coming decade.

Former diesel drivers are increasingly buying gasoline-powered cars
Media spokesman Christoph Wolnik: "We need a minimum level of diesel engines in passenger cars in order to comply with the stricter CO2 targets from 2020. Of course, we are also focusing on alternative drive systems with the 10/20 target. According to this, every tenth new passenger car should be an electric car or a plug-in hybrid in two years. Recent months have shown that three out of four former diesel buyers are now opting for a gasoline-powered vehicle and only a quarter are switching to a hybrid, electric or gas-powered vehicle. Modern diesel engines emit around 15 percent less CO2 than a comparable gasoline engine and are economically the better choice for higher mileage."

The fact that compliance with the lower pollutant limits in driving operation is guaranteed even under the tougher conditions in Switzerland with higher altitudes and steeper gradients was proven by recent tests conducted by TCS.
