These figures represent new records that can presumably be further improved in the course of the year. Added to this are another 0.9 percent of plug-in hybrids, bringing auto-schweiz closer to achieving its "10/20" target.
Overall, the market is stable, both in February (down 0.5 percent year-on-year) and cumulatively after two months (43,107 enrollments, down 1.9 percent year-on-year).
Prerequisites must be right
In 2020, every tenth new passenger car registered in the two countries is to be an electric car or plug-in hybrid. Only with a high number of alternatively powered vehicles, including more hybrids, gas and hydrogen cars, will it be possible to meet the CO2 reduction targets for new cars, which will become much stricter from 2020.
With February as the strongest electric month ever, it is clear that "10/20" is achievable if the conditions are right. This includes, for example, the rapid and consistent expansion of the publicly available charging infrastructure, promotional measures on the part of the federal government, the cantons and the cities, and an attractive range of models that can be driven alternatively.
