Market: Light at the end of the tunnel at last
STROMER SAVES THE BALANCE SHEET A successful start to the year for the market for new passenger cars in Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein. The situation is easing noticeably.
At 16,437, 3.4 percent more new vehicles were put on the roads in January than a year ago. This means that the Swiss market has now exceeded its respective prior-year figure for the fifth calendar month in succession. Alternative drive systems accounted for more than half of new registrations in January.
A quarter are already plug vehicles
Following the renewed record figures for the market shares of alternative drive systems in 2022, January 2023 follows directly on from this. With 2840 electric cars (+33.6 %) and 1387 plug-in hybrids (-9.4 %), the share of new cars that can be charged via the power grid is 25.7 percent, up from 25.9 in the full year 2022. Full and mild hybrids without external charging options come to 4667 registrations and 28.4 percent of the total market, up from 24.8 percent in the full previous year.
At 54.2 percent in January, electrified drives thus already account for well over half of the market for new passenger cars. This trend is likely to continue over the rest of the year.
