In the past calendar month, 28,958 new registrations were registered in the two countries combined, an increase of 3.0% or 832 cars compared to the same month last year. Cumulatively, the car market is virtually in the red after three months: with 72,065 registrations, it is just 24 short of the first quarter of 2017.
Positive signs for the year as a whole
The surge in electric cars has resulted in a double-digit market share of 10.2% for alternative drive systems, a positive sign for the future. With the tailwind from the Geneva Motor Show, the Swiss importers' association auto-schweiz expects the rest of the year to be positive.
Media spokesman Christoph Wolnik: "The Geneva Motor Show was a complete success for the brands represented at the event. The March figures already show this, but the processing of new orders will also have a positive effect on the market balance over the coming months."
For the year as a whole, the members of auto-schweiz expect demand for new passenger cars to increase compared to 2018. Last year, the total number of new registrations just missed the 300,000 mark by 284 units. You can find more detailed information on the Internet.
