Market: Diesel sales remain under strong pressure

Diesel sales
In February of this year, auto-i-dat ag recorded the lowest proportion of new diesel cars sold in Switzerland since 2015.

René Mitteregger, data specialist at auto-i-dat ag: "Based on our many years of market observation, this correlation definitely exists." The expert can refute the myth that convertibles are only sold or bought in spring: "Today, the quality of convertible roofs is so good that the vehicle can be used all year round."

Lowest proportion of diesel in new cars since 2015
However, convertibles are certainly not the problem children of Swiss car dealers - it is rather diesel vehicles, where both new and used cars have come under pressure in recent months. In February of this year, auto-i-dat ag recorded the lowest proportion of diesel cars sold since 2015 (31.4%).

No boom in e-vehicle sales yet
Suppliers of electric vehicles are definitely not feeling the spring yet. René Mitteregger: "There can be no talk of a boom. Of course, more electric vehicles were sold in 2017 than in the previous year, but that's also simply because more electric vehicles are generally available. With a current market share of 1.48 percent of new vehicles, they are still niche products." Many of the basic prerequisites for the boom expected by many are not yet in place, namely on the part of Swiss electricity producers and the electricity grid, as well as the future disposal of batteries."
