At the center of the campaign is a film series featuring prominent Swiss personalities.
With 34,825 enrollments, December shined with an increase of 26.5 percent. In 2019, one in ten new cars had an alternative drive system. The share of electric, hybrid, gas and hydrogen models was 13.1 percent.
The Association of Swiss Automobile Importers auto-schweiz expects a further increase in the alternative market share in view of the significantly stricter CO2 regulations starting this year - and is intensifying the visibility of its own commitment "My AUTOgram" these days.
Stable economy was the decisive factor
For the eighth time in nine years, the market for new passenger cars has exceeded the psychological mark of 300,000 new registrations. In 2018, this figure had been missed by just under 300 registrations.
One reason for the market growth, in addition to the weak previous year, is likely to be the stable economy. This even exceeded the auto-schweiz forecast of 308,000 new registrations.
Constant market in the new year
For 2020, the Association of Swiss Automobile Importers expects the market level to remain relatively constant at 300,000 new passenger cars. The share of alternative drive systems will continue to rise, after their unit numbers increased by 88.6 percent year-on-year in 2019. The growth drivers here were electric (+157.7 percent), hybrid (+68.0 percent) and gas cars (+55.5 percent).
Growth for alternative drives
The share of models that can be charged from the electricity grid reached a new high of 5.6 percent in 2019. Purely electric passenger cars more than doubled their market share from 1.7 percent in the previous year to 4.2 percent, while plug-in hybrid models remained stable at 1.4 percent. All alternative drives now face an extraordinary year of growth.
Media spokesman Christoph Wolnik: "In view of the significantly lower CO2 target value of 95 grams per kilometer, which will apply to 85 percent of new passenger cars in Switzerland in 2020, numerous new electric and plug-in models will soon come onto the market. We expect the plug-in market share to almost double to around ten percent in 2020."
Commitment with action My AUTOgram
In the coming weeks, the "My AUTOgram" campaign initiated by auto-schweiz will be visible on TV, in print and in online media. With facts and stories from real life, "Mein AUTOgramm" shows that individual motorized mobility is the driving force behind our lives.
No matter whether in your own or someone else's car, in combination with other means of transport, whether as a driver or passenger, whether with gasoline, electricity, diesel, gas, hydrogen or another drive technology.

Celebrities fight by car stop
At the center is a film series with celebrities. Melanie Winiger versus Baschi, Stress versus Gilbert Gress - in exciting duels, two celebrities each want to reach a common goal in six hours.
The race will start at various locations in Switzerland, and travel will be by car stop only. Whoever finds more rides wins the autograph hunt. During the ride, the celebrities talk to the drivers about very personal stories about individual motorized mobility.
A second season with four more Swiss celebrities will follow in the spring.
