Charging stations: German freeways in the electric check
PLAN BEFORE YOU START The used car platform Carvago examines the charging infrastructure for electric cars on German highways. The A111 in northern Berlin has the most stations per kilometer.
A comprehensive charging infrastructure is essential for more sustainable mobility. In total, there are already 1230 charging points for electric vehicles on highways in Germany. In a survey, the used car platform Carvago found that the A111 in the north of Berlin offers the most charging options per kilometer: nine charging points over the 23 kilometers.
The lowest density awaits motorists along the A93, which runs from Hof in the north of Bavaria to the Austrian border: three stations over 268 kilometers. In third place in the ranking is the A81 with 75 charging points over a length of 276 kilometers. It runs from the Swiss border via Stuttgart to Würzburg.
Stations with 50-kW- are the most common
50 kW charging stations are the most common on German autobahns. Of the total of 1230 charging points, around 500 are available. Charging is much faster at the more than 200 charging points with 300 kW, and charging points with an output of 43 kW are the third most common.
Jakub Šulta, founder and CEO of Carvago: "When buying a new model, more and more people in Germany are opting for an electric car. This also increases the need for charging options. An undersupply in the infrastructure becomes a problem especially on long distances, as the vehicles consume more energy here due to the usually higher speeds."
