Child seats: Pure e-cars in the expert test

Ideally, children travel in the outer seats in the second row. For this reason, all child seats should be suitably uncomplicated to fit in these positions.
The Audi e-tron, Porsche Taycan, Tesla X and Model 3 models and the VW e-Golf scored "very good" for this criterion in the test. Five other vehicles received a rating of "good.
The Renault Zoe, Nissan Leaf, Kia Niro, Hyundai Kona and BMW i3 receive a grade of "satisfactory" for these seats. The decisive factors are the poor space available, the inadequate operating instructions or the short seat belt lengths.
Safety in the second row Center
In the "second row in the middle" position, the Tesla Model X is the only one to achieve the rating "very good". The model owes this to the generous amount of space and the Isofix anchorages, which are not offered on this seat in any other vehicle tested.
The Mini Electric, BMW i3, Hyndai Kona EV, Nissan Leaf and Porsche Taycan were rated "not suitable" here. The remaining seven vehicles were rated "with restrictions" because these vehicles cannot have a child seat installed in this position. They only offer enough space on the rear middle seat for a booster seat without a backrest.
Avoid passenger seat if possible
A child should only travel in the front passenger seat if all seats in the back are already occupied.
When it comes to equipping the front passenger seat with a rear-facing child seat, it is mandatory to deactivate the front passenger airbag. With forward-facing child seats, the airbag can remain active if the seat is set in the rearmost position.
