Skoda Karoq
Skoda's new SUV will soon be unveiled to the global public in Sweden and is scheduled for launch later this year.

The world premiere of Skoda's new SUV will take place on May 18 in Stockholm. With the name of the new compact model, Skoda is borrowing the spelling of the Kodiaq, thus creating a uniform nomenclature for existing and future SUV models. The inspiration for the name came from the inhabitants of Kodiak Island. The remote archipelago off the south coast of Alaska fascinates with its wild, partly untouched landscape. The name for the new compact SUV was ultimately created from the combination of the two words.

Compact dimensions
The compact SUV measures 4382 millimetres in length, is 1841 millimetres wide and 1605 millimetres high. The long wheelbase of 2638 millimetres (2630 millimetres in the all-wheel drive version) gives the new SUV a comfortable stance on the road. The increase in size primarily benefits the passengers.

New motors in the program
A total of four engine variants are offered - two petrol and two diesel. The two petrol engines and one diesel engine are new to the range. The displacements are 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 liters, with power outputs ranging from 85 kW (115 hp) to 140 kW (190 hp). All engines are turbocharged direct-injection units and feature start-stop technology and brake energy recovery. They meet the EU-6 regulation standard. With the exception of the most powerful diesel, all engines can be ordered with either a manual 6-speed gearbox or a 7-speed DSG.

Further expansion of the model range
As part of the manufacturer's 2025 strategy for the future, the brand will continue to systematically drive forward the expansion of its model range in the coming years. The focus here is primarily on expanding the SUV range. The Kodiaq, a new large SUV model, was recently launched on international markets. The company is now setting the next milestone with the Karoq. The market launch will start in the second half of 2017.
