Smart launches another new start. With the naturally electrically powered SUV study Concept #1, the newly founded Smart Automobile Co. Ltd, the global joint venture of Mercedes-Benz AG and Geely Automobile Co. Ltd, is also venturing into a new vehicle category.
Global supplier of premium compact vehicles
Concept #1 is intended to represent the brand's further development into a global supplier of premium compact vehicles for different customer groups. The study transfers the brand's typical design with its compact exterior dimensions to the SUV world.
The generously dimensioned interior should convince young families who want to be electrically mobile and trendsetters of the urban avant-garde.
In addition to the new exterior design with its exceptional lighting features, the highlights of the near-production study include the comfortable interior, comprehensive connectivity and numerous driver assistance systems.
Dimension of the digitization of upcoming models
The first hint of the new dimension of digitization in Smart's future models is provided by the door handles - discreetly indicated by light elements. The rear doors of the Concept #1 are hinged at the back and open in opposite directions.
This portal door concept not only allows particularly convenient entry and exit. Due to the absence of a B-pillar, it also allows an unobstructed view of the generously dimensioned interior.
From combustion engine to pure electric drive
The smart brand has been a pioneer of urban mobility since 1997. It stands for a sustainable and connected "urban lifestyle". Its pioneering status was underlined once again in 2019: smart was the world's first automaker to switch completely from the combustion engine to the pure electric drive.
At the IAA Mobility, the Concept #1 will be on display at the Mercedes-Benz booth in Hall B3 and, from September 7, at the open-space experience landscape on Odeonsplatz.
