With the SLM Concept Wheel, Ronal demonstrates the technical feasibility of 3D printing for wheels.

The 3D-printed, one-piece wheel made of aluminum light alloy (AlSi10) weighs about five kilos and has a wheel load of 515 kilos. With a size of 7×13 inches, it fits, for example, the 1970s Ford Capri on display at the Swiss Ronal Group booth.

Wheels production by laser melting
The testing of the SLM Concept Wheel for use in traffic in accordance with StVZO §30, the requirements of which were even exceeded, underlines the future viability of wheel manufacturing by selective laser melting. The name of the concept wheel also comes from the Selective Laser Melting manufacturing process.
The tool-free process allows great freedom in design and highly customizable wheels according to customer requirements. Each 3D-printed wheel is subjected to an X-ray inspection at the end of production to rule out defects and material flaws.
