A few weeks ago, Audi announced that seven new RS models would be unveiled this year. Now we know that one of them is the new RS6 Avant. The fourth generation of the potent luxury-class station wagon will celebrate its world premiere at the IAA in Frankfurt September 12-22). The Swiss market launch will take place in the first quarter of 2020.
Tough competitor for Mercedes & Co.
From this point on, the BMW M5 (only available as a sedan) and the Mercedes AMG E 63 S Estate will have to face tough competition. One thing in advance: Unlike the new S6 Avant, which is now only available as a diesel, the RS version draws its power from a husky gasoline engine.
At 250 km/h electronic limitation
The 4.0 TFSI in the new Audi RS 6 Avant delivers 600 hp and 800 Nm of torque. The high-performance station wagon is supposed to go from zero to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds. It can reach 200 km/h in twelve seconds. At 250 km/h, propulsion is electronically limited. With the optional dynamics package, the RS estate can run at up to 280 km/h, or even 305 km/h with the dynamics package plus.
Extensive driver assistance equipment
The new RS 6 Avant comes with a comprehensive range of comfort, connectivity and driver assistance features. It thus combines consistent sportiness with unlimited long-distance capability and supports the driver in many situations.
More than 30 assistance systems are available - including Adaptive Driving Assist, Intersection Assist, Lane Change Warning, and Curb Warning and Surrounding Area Cameras.
