The new Opel Astra CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) is available as a five-door sedan and as an Astra Sports Tourer in the Enjoy or Excellence model versions. Prices start at 28,200 Swiss francs (5-door) and 29,400 Swiss francs (Sports Tourer). Customers also benefit from a flex premium of 2,500 francs and zero-percent leasing with no down payment.
Base gasoline engine
The 81 kW/110 hp 1.4-liter turbo is based on the all-aluminum gasoline engine of its gasoline counterpart. The four-cylinder has been optimized for use with natural gas, biogas or any mixture thereof (CNG consumption according to NEDC: combined 4.3-4.1 kg/100 km, CO2 emissions combined 116-113 g/km factory figures). Natural gas is supplied by two "Type 4" tanks made of carbon fiber composites with a total capacity of 19 kilograms (117.5 liters).
Reserve on board
If the tanks are ever empty, a 13.7-liter gasoline reserve allows the driver to continue driving until the next refueling stop. The advantages of natural gas drives are obvious: Natural gas vehicles emit less CO2 than comparable gasoline engines, and the NOx problem currently affecting diesels is also not an issue.
