Daniel Koch, Federal Councilor Alain Berset, Heidi Hanselmann and André Simonazzi (from left) explain their decision-making process.

The national government, represented by Federal Councillor Alain Berset, Head of the Federal Department of Home Affairs, Heidi Hanselmann, President of the Swiss Conference of Cantonal Health Directors, and Daniel Koch, Head of the Communicable Diseases Division, commented on the outbreak of the disease in Switzerland under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor and Federal Council Speaker André Simonazzi.

This measure of the Federal Council is supported in a special situation by the epidemic law applied for the first time. Therefore, as of now and until provisionally March 15, no events with more than 1000 people may take place.

Alain Berset: "The cantons are free to take further measures. We want to limit further contagions as best we can."

Health first
The sanction, which hits as the biggest event the Geneva Motor Show scheduled for March 5-15, comes just three days before the opening of GIMS to media representatives.

The organizers accept this decision.

Maurice Turrettini, President of the Board of Trustees: "We regret this situation, but the health of all involved is an absolute priority for us and our exhibitors. This is a case of force majeure. For the exhibitors who have invested massively in their presence in Geneva, this is a bitter loss. However, we are convinced that all those affected will understand this decision. We thank all those who have worked hard to make this 90th edition a reality. GIMS 2020 could have been a great event."

AutoSprintCH on the ball with innovations
In the coming days, we will present online the most important new models that were to be presented at this year's Geneva Motor Show. We have also highlighted many new releases in recent weeks online and in the latest print edition.

You can also find more information on the salon's website.

In 2020 there will be no auto show and no presentations of novelties for media and the public.
