Geneva 2019: Sporty 508 study from Peugeot

THREE DRIVES At the Geneva Motor Show, Peugeot is presenting a sporty study based on the new 508. The Concept 508 Peugeot was developed by engineers from the sports department. The Concept 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered Neo-Performance has with the PureTech gasoline engine and one electric motor each front and rear three drives, which together bring more than 400 hp on the road. Seemingly floating struts in the radiator grille come from the 3D printer and direct the airflow directly into the radiator. In addition, large inlets provide a better air supply and give the front apron a sharper appearance.
Flaps on the side of the skirt and in the lower body area as well as winglets, small wings on both sides of the rear, guide the airstream into optimal paths and reduce air resistance.

The Concept 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered Neo-Performance has three powertrains - the PureTech gasoline engine and one electric motor each at the front and rear - which together deliver more than 400 hp to the road. With this concept car, the lion brand is giving a preview of its new electrified, sporty models that combine high performance with low CO2 emissions.

Gilles Vidal, Director of Design Peugeot: "The Concept 508 Peugeot Sport Engineered Neo-Performance showcases the striking character of the Peugeot 508 to best effect thanks to innovative aerodynamic choices. The concept car reflects our vision of a new sportiness where efficiency becomes the new elegance."

Sharpened sportiness
The designers and engineers of Peugeot Sport, the brand's motorsport division, further developed the design of the 508 for the study. In the revision, they not only paid great attention to aerodynamics. They equipped the concept car with three engines, two power sources and all-wheel drive.

The interaction of the drives results in impressive responsiveness and a maximum torque of 500 Nm. As a result, the driving performance of the study is comparable to that of a vehicle with a 400 hp internal combustion engine. At the same time, the Concept 508 PeugeotDe Sport Engineered Neo-Performance emits only 49 grams of CO2/km according to the WLTP standard. In Sport mode, 190 km/h top speed can be achieved purely electrically.

Dream comes true
Naturally, the engineers also revised the chassis. The cornerstones are the lowered body, the new damping control and a wheelbase that has been widened by 24 millimeters at the front and 12 millimeters at the rear.

For the General Director of Peugeot Sport, this is a dream come true.

Bruno Famin: "We will develop the sportiest models in Peugeot's history! Electrification makes it possible."
