Ford: Collision Assist detects pedestrians
If pedestrians are distracted by text messages, videos or smartphone games when crossing the road, this can lead to dangerous situations. Ford now also offers technology for commercial vehicles that recognizes people on the road and automatically intervenes with the brakes if necessary. If a collision is imminent, the driver first receives an acoustic and visual warning. If the driver does not react, the system builds up full braking pressure, even if the driver has not yet depressed the pedal. In an emergency, this helps to decisively shorten the braking distance at the last second. If the driver still does not react, the brakes are activated automatically and the vehicle is then braked automatically. The technology was initially available from Ford for the Ford Mondeo and combines front camera and radar sensors to distinguish pedestrians from other objects - such as traffic signs or other objects at the side of the road. The system even reacts when people move from the edge of the road into the flow of traffic.
