In the course of the recently announced electrification strategy (see Report in AutoSprintCH), Volvo Cars announced it would produce its first all-electric car in China.
New model
The planned new model is based on the compact modular architecture (CMA) and will be exported worldwide. "Volvo supports the Chinese government's five-year plan to improve air quality. This is fully in line with our core values: care for the environment, quality and safety," explained Håkan Samuelsson, President and CEO of Volvo Cars.
Eminently large market
China is currently the world's largest sales market for electric vehicles and has ambitious targets for the sale of fully electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles. The aim is to have one million electrified Volvo models on the roads worldwide by 2025. Volvo already has three production sites in China: Daqing produces the Volvo 90 series models, Chengdu the Volvo 60 series and Luqiao the Volvo 40 series in the future.
