E-mobility: car sharing as a partnership

As chance would have it, the municipality of Melchnau conducted a survey among the population to ascertain the need for an electric vehicle for public hire. The background to this was an inquiry from a company that had offered the municipality an electric rental vehicle including a charging station.
Experience of the customers
Garage Küffer AG in Melchnau had been toying with this idea for some time.
Thierry Küffer, who runs the family business together with his brother Silvio: "Providing information about e-mobility is one thing. The other is to make it possible to experience an e-car. This allows customers to gain their own experience and familiarize themselves with e-mobility."
Theory was soon to be followed by practice.
Charging with solar power from Melchnau
For around four months now, a Skoda Citigo e iV has been parked in the center of the village of 1,500 inhabitants, and can be booked online. The car is charged with solar power from Melchnau.
The costs were split: Garage Küffer financed the car and pays for the maintenance costs. The municipality, in turn, facilitated the installation for the charging station and pays for the parking space rental as well as the services of the booking and billing system.
Councillor Regula Heimberg: "On our own, we would not have been able to bear the financial risk. The cooperation is ideal, the costs can be shared and the e-car can be utilized to the best possible extent."
