Four plug-in hybrids and the brand's first all-electric model, the Born (gallery above left), are set to prove that electrification and performance easily complement each other.
Event on the virtual platform e-Garage
To celebrate the anniversary, the Cupra family gathered for a digital event on the Cupra e-Garage virtual platform to present their future plans (also in video).
The event featured well-known guests including brand ambassadors Marc ter Stegen and Fernando Belasteguín, racing drivers Mattias Ekström, Jordi Gené and Mikel Azcona, and Game of Thrones executive co-producer Vince Gerardis.
Doubling of sales volume from 2020
Cupra President Wayne Griffiths: "Cupra has surprised everyone in these three years and has continued to grow despite the pandemic. These great results make us optimistic and give us even more incentive for 2021. This year, we aim to double the sales volume of 2020 and achieve a mix of ten percent of the total sales of the company, SEAT S.A."
50 percent plug-in hybrids with the Formentor
With four hybrid variants of the Leon and Formentor for Switzerland launching alongside the Ateca, the brand aims to strengthen its presence in Europe and penetrate the most electrified markets to date, including Norway and the Netherlands.
The brand's goal is for plug-in hybrids to soon account for 50 percent of Formentor's total sales. In addition, Cupra wants to expand its presence in international markets such as Mexico, Israel and Turkey.
Switzerland with the highest market share in the world
AutoSprintCH spoke to Marc Geissmann, Head of Cupra & Business Development in Switzerland, about the significance of the brand for the Swiss.
How has Cupra developed in Switzerland in recent years?
The development of the Cupra brand in Switzerland has exceeded our initial expectations. With 1930 units sold, a new sales record was achieved even in 2020. Globally, the Swiss market ranks fourth in absolute sales figures and has the highest Cupra market share worldwide.
Which target groups are interested in the brand in Switzerland?
Cupra is an unconventional Challenger brand defined by its modern vehicles, sense of style and contemporary performance. We position ourselves between the volume market and the traditional premium market. Accordingly, we appeal to customers, design-savvy, dynamic and progressive.
Cupra Garage is available in Hamburg and Munich. When in Switzerland?
Internal clarifications are currently underway as to whether Cupra flagship stores will also be implemented in Switzerland. The main focus is on developing the existing distribution network.
Have Swiss already qualified for a Master's position?
The recruitment of Cupra Masters is currently underway with our partners. The first Cupra Masters are already working in the trading companies.
How does Cupra Switzerland rate the brand's sporting activities?
Racing is part of the DNA of the Cupra brand. With its activities in the upcoming Pure ETCR and Extreme E, Cupra combines its many years of experience in motorsport with the new concept of electric racing. As a Swiss importer, we support these activities by using them for customer activation and thanks to the cooperation with Freddy Barth, we can also make racing a tangible experience for our customers.
How many of the 7000 Formentor VZ5 are reserved for Switzerland?
This has not yet been conclusively defined. However, the Swiss market is one of the most important markets for the Formentor VZ5.
Cupra stands for lifestyle and trends. What is planned for Switzerland?
Cupra Switzerland actively seeks collaborations that share the brand values. For example, with the snow sports region of Saas-Fee or our new ambassador, the footballer Ana-Maria Crnogorčević, we have found partners who optimally embody our values.
... and will we see the De Antonio boat on Lake Zurich?
Cupra is working together with De Antonio on the development of a yacht with hybrid propulsion. The first renderings are already promising. But we'll have to be patient a little longer.
