The reimbursements of the insurers considered differ significantly - and in each vehicle category.

The differences in reimbursements in the event of a total loss amount to up to 17 percent among the ten insurers examined. The differences are greatest for five- to seven-year-old cars. For example, car owners get 37,102 francs back for their broken Volvo XC60 after 66 months with Basler Versicherung, while Axa customers only get 30,756 francs. In the case of the Skoda Octavia, the benefits still differ by 3664 francs, and even in the case of the Fiat 500, car owners receive 1866 francs more after 66 months with Basler Versicherung than with Axa.

Best refund fromi Basler Insurance
For five-and-a-half-year-old cars, i.e. 66 months, Basler Versicherung offers the best reimbursement with 57.3 percent of the replacement value. Dextra, Mobiliar, Generali, Helvetia and Smile.direct follow in second place with 55 percent each. Allianz and Elvia rank third with 54.5 percent each. In contrast, Axa offers the lowest compensation at 47.5 percent of the replacement value.

Varying evaluation of the providers
But not only the amount of the payout varies depending on the provider. Insurers also define the criteria for a total loss differently. As a result, the extent of the damage that is decisive for a total loss differs and thus also whether the corresponding compensation is paid.
Comparis mobility expert Andrea Auer: "We observe significant differences in benefits per insurer over the years. That's why it's sometimes worth changing insurers over time with regard to a possible total loss."
