Cell phone users
Cell phone users are by far the biggest nuisance on the roads for the Swiss.

These are the findings of a representative survey conducted by Marketagent on behalf of Comparis, the largest online marketplace for vehicles in Switzerland. The omnipresence of cell phones is also reflected in road traffic. When asked about the biggest annoyances in road traffic, Mr. and Mrs. Swiss most frequently mention cell phone users.

Benefit reductions by insurers
Comparis mobility expert Andrea Auer: "In fact, more people are seriously injured in traffic every year due to inattention and distraction than due to the influence of alcohol or speeding. The law imposes heavy penalties for using a cell phone at the wheel. An accident can also result in reduced benefits from insurers."

Driving too close or tailgating is annoying
Apart from cell phone use, respondents are particularly annoyed by drivers tailgating or tailgating (51 percent). However, this reveals a divide in the French-speaking part of Switzerland: Significantly more Swiss Germans are annoyed by this behavior than French-speaking Swiss. The opposite is true when it comes to overtaking on the right: This behavior bothers twice as many French-speaking Swiss as German-speaking Swiss.

Disturbing cyclists riding side by side
When it comes to cyclists, the Swiss are particularly annoyed by cyclists riding side by side. Cyclists who disregard red lights are also annoying. Older respondents are particularly annoyed by the latter: 52% of over 50-year-olds compared to 34% of under 30-year-olds.
