Supercar Blondie explains the technical highlights of Mercedes' futuristic Vision AVTR.
The name is inspired by the terms Avatar and Advanced Vehicle Transformation and was created in collaboration with the makers of the "Avatar" movies.
The vehicle represents the interaction between man, machine and nature. Instead of a conventional steering wheel, the multifunctional control element in the center console enables man and machine to merge.
Menu selection on the palm
Placing the hand on the control unit brings the vehicle "to life". Raising the hand projects a menu selection onto the palm, allowing the passenger to choose between different functionalities. The Vision AVTR recognizes the driver himself by his breathing.
Contact through bionic flaps
The 33 bionic flaps on the back of the vehicle can communicate with the driver and, through the driver, with the environment.
The ability to set the front and rear axles in the same or opposite directions allows the Vision AVTR to travel about 30 degrees laterally offset in what is known as crab steering.
Materials fully recyclable
The concept vehicle relies on battery technology based on graphene-based organic cell chemistry. It requires no rare earths or metals. The materials are compostable and thus fully recyclable. In this way, electromobility becomes independent of fossil resources.
Sustainability also determines the materials. The seats are refined by leather with microfiber Dinamica. The floor is made of rattan wood.
