At the same time, the French automaker set a new record with a top speed of 490.484 km/h set a new TÃœV-certified speed record.

Le Mans winner set best time
The record-breaking driver is Le Mans winner and Bugatti test driver Andy Wallace. On the test track in Ehra-Lessien (Lower Saxony), the Briton reached a top speed of 490.484 km/h with the vehicle.

Bugatti President Stephan Winkelmann: "Our goal was to reach the magic 300 miles per hour, the first manufacturer ever to do so. We've now achieved that, and it makes us - the entire team and me - incredibly proud."

World record
Inside, almost everything is as usual. The Bugatti Chiron's steering wheel, which is flattened at the bottom, feels good in the hands.

Next target is the 500 km/h mark
What the automaker's next target is, Bugatti leaves open in the announcement.

Stephan Winkelman: "With the world record, we have once again shown that Bugatti still builds the fastest cars in the world, true super sports cars that offer absolute exclusivity, luxury and high craftsmanship. The Bugatti is the only hyper sports car that combines all these qualities in one vehicle. We will be focusing even more on this in the future. And there's certainly more in it."

The carmaker may already be looking for a way to increase the Chiron's performance by another ten kilometers per hour. The aim is then to crack the 500 km/h mark.
