At the turn of the year, the Internet plattorm Ucar is said to have acquired 67 percent of the shares for the equivalent of around 510 million euros from the Chinese truck manufacturer Foton. The contract is also said to include a guarantee for a 540 million euro loan from Foton to Borgward.
Door in Bremen always remains open
The reservation for a 140,000 square meter site in Bremen expired in 2018. In April 2017, the company had announced plans to build a plant there for the production of around 50,000 electric cars per year. What will become of these plans remains unclear. In any case, Bremen has announced that the "door is always open" for Borgward in the city. The announced "Brand Center" in Stuttgart has also been postponed in the meantime.
Over 120,000 vehicles sold so far
Nevertheless, Borgward is active in Germany. However, the Chinese company does not sell its only model to date, the BX7, through its own dealer network, but only via the Internet. The service has been taken over by the ATU workshop chain. According to their own information, they have now sold more than 120,000 vehicles in around 20 countries.
