Three fully electric trucks are now in use at the BMW Group's main plant. In total, the company thus avoids CO2 emissions of around 82 tons per year. All three vehicles are on public roads in the city of Munich.
Teamwork
A logistics service provider uses its first electric truck to transport new vehicles. On a 15-kilometer route, the semitrailer truck delivers vehicles from Garching for customer delivery to BMW Welt, and on its way back, it transports vehicles that have just come off the assembly line from the main plant to Garching. Another group of companies has been cooperating with the BMW Group on sustainable city logistics for more than two years. Both companies have had positive experiences with the reliably running first electric truck, so two more have now been put into service.
Commissioning
Kurt Kapp, Head of Economic Development of the City of Munich, together with the representatives of ARS Altmann AG, SCHERM Group and BMW Group, gave the official starting signal for the commissioning of the two new e-trucks. "We need innovative and sustainable logistics concepts to protect the health of our city's citizens and at the same time make production within the city possible in the future."
Green power
Thanks to "green" electricity and the alternative drive system, the 40-ton trucks are CO2-free, quiet and have virtually no particulate pollution for the environment. Depending on the tractor, charging the truck batteries takes three to four hours. Fully charged, the e-trucks each have a range of up to 160 kilometers.
Strategy
The BMW Group's strategy places the technological focus on the topics of electromobility, digitalization and autonomous driving. In doing so, the company is strengthening Germany as an innovation driver for the mobility and technologies of the future on the basis of sustainable profitability.
