BMW: The New Class as a digital world of experience 🎥

THE CAR BECOMES A PARTNER The BMW Group presented a vision of the future for the digital experience inside and outside the car at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2023 in Las Vegas.

BMW i Vision Dee is the name of the futuristic mid-size sedan with a new, reduced design language. The name Dee stands for Digital Emotional Experience. And that's exactly what it's all about - an even more intensive relationship between people and cars in the future. The future digital functions will go far beyond the voice control and driver assistance systems we know today.

Anticipating the next generation of vehicles

The head-up display across the entire width of the windshield is intended to anticipate the next generation of vehicles. From 2025, this innovation will be available in the New Class models. The BMW Group has also further developed color-changing technology. While at the last CES it showed the BMW iX Flow Featuring E Ink, which could change from black to white, the BMW i Vision Dee offers its exterior in up to 32 colors as desired (see video).

Operation by voice or hand movement

The interior of the vision vehicle appears spartanically empty: There are no door handles, dashboard, temperature controls, switches, buttons - and no display either. The central control element is a sensor system on the same surface as the dashboard in today's cars.

The driver decides which information he wants to see on the windshield by voice or hand gesture. When the car is stationary, he can use dimmable windows to block out reality and immerse himself completely in virtual worlds.

Fusion of hardware and software

CEO Oliver Zipse: "With the BMW i Vision Dee, we are showing what is possible when hardware and software merge. The Vision vehicle exploits the potential of digitization and underscores its overriding importance for the coming generations of cars. The speedometer, navigation system and all other information are displayed on the windshield via a head-up display. From as early as 2025, the head-up display will be available as standard across the entire width of the windshield in the models of the New Class. The New Class is based on a new architecture developed for battery cars. It is designed to make them as profitable as internal combustion engines are today."

With its intelligent and almost human capabilities, the BMW i Vision Dee accompanies drivers not only through the real events on the road, but also in their digital environment. One can be curious.
