The BMW Group has reached a significant milestone by becoming the first car manufacturer to receive the CCC Digital Key™️ certificate from the Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC). This certification reflects the highest security and interoperability standards and confirms the outstanding quality of the BMW Digital Key.

Importance of certification

Alysia Johnson, President of the Car Connectivity Consortium, emphasized the importance of certifying key digital solutions: "Certifying key digital solutions at every point in the vehicle-to-device ecosystem is vital to increase adoption of the technology and build confidence among consumers and the industry as a whole."

Innovative vehicle access

Kai Barbehön, Head of Development Central Control Units, Physical Vehicle Electrical System and Power Supply BMW Group, explained: "We want to offer our customers the best possible overall experience and innovative, convenient vehicle access is an important part of this experience. The fact that our digital key is now the first product to receive CCC Digital Key™️ certification underlines our claim to leadership in this area."

Pioneering work in digital vehicle access

The BMW Group has enabled digital vehicle access via Near Field Communication (NFC) since 2018. In 2021, the BMW Digital Key Plus was introduced with the BMW iX, which was the first application worldwide to use ultra-wideband (UWB) technology for vehicle access. This technology offers additional functions, increased security and greater convenience, as the smartphone no longer needs to be taken out of the pocket to unlock and lock the vehicle.

Future developments

The BMW Group plans to continue to lead the way in digital vehicle access. The cross-platform sharing function of the BMW Digital Key with traditional messenger services demonstrates how BMW is continuously developing innovative solutions that enhance the customer experience. Collaboration with the Car Connectivity Consortium remains a key part of this strategy.
