Three technical professions to choose from
The figures show that young people obviously see things the same way and that basic vocational training in the Swiss automotive industry is attractive. 3,000 school leavers take up an apprenticeship in a garage business every year.
Of these, around 2,700 choose one of the three technical professions in the areas of passenger cars or commercial vehicles. In addition, there are apprenticeships in the commercial and retail sectors.
Rapid development creates excitement
Olivier Maeder, who is responsible for education on the Executive Board of the Auto Gewerbe Verband Schweiz (AGVS), says: "The rapid pace of development ensures that automotive professions remain exciting. Areas such as drive technology or driver assistance systems for semi-autonomous and autonomous driving place high demands on knowledge and skills. This requires well-trained and versatile specialists. An automotive profession is a good choice and offers a wide range of development opportunities."
Around 500 apprenticeships are still waiting to be filled.
