Electric
One-third of respondents can imagine that their next car will be an electric car.

Those who continue to rely on the classic drive state that they are increasingly loyal to the brand and rely on power. Family planning, a new financial situation, a more sustainable lifestyle or simply more driving pleasure - the reasons for buying a car can be very individual.

AutoScout24 wanted to know what people look for when they buy a car. What is important, what features should the next car have, what is nice-to-have and what is impossible to do without?

Independence from fossil fuels
Although diesel and gasoline remain the most popular drive systems with over 40 percent, hybrid and electric cars are also increasingly being considered when purchasing a new car. Just under 30 percent of respondents can imagine their next car being an electric car.

Among people who have a concrete intention to buy, this figure is 23 percent. Those surveyed cited independence from fossil fuels and greater sustainability as particular advantages of the electric car compared to a car with a combustion engine.

Disadvantages are purchase price and range
The purchase price, the range, the number of public charging stations and the fact that the technology is not yet mature enough are most often seen as disadvantages of an electric car.

Pierre-Alain Regali, Managing Director of AutoScout24: "I am pleased to see that more and more people are also considering driving a vehicle with an alternative drive. On our platform, almost ten percent of all passenger cars advertised now have an alternative drive."

Environmental factor is in the foreground
Nevertheless, the respondents are not entirely unanimous on the subject of sustainability. While 21 percent consider this to be very important, eight percent say that the environmental factor is not important to them at all. Those who do not prefer an electric car place more value on performance or the brand.

Brand loyalty plays an important role
According to the survey, around half of the people who own a car themselves would consider buying the same brand again the next time they bought a car.

Maurice Acker, National Sales Director of AutoScout24, explains: "Brand loyalty clearly still plays a significant role in the purchase decision. However, the younger generation in particular is showing more erratic buying behavior. The vehicle has also evolved from a former status symbol into a companion for life."

The purchase of a car is associated with emotions
The most popular brand among respondents is Volkswagen. Tesla is the brand with particularly strong growth in popularity. Around one-third of respondents do not yet know which brand they will buy next.

Maurice Acker: "The choice of a car is often associated with emotions as well as need. So it can happen that not only hard facts influence the final decision."
