The election of Helmut Ruhl, who has been CEO of AMAG Group AG since March 1, 2021, was unanimous. The same applies to the appointment of current board member Donato Bochicchio, Chairman of the Board and Managing Director of Ford Motor Company (Switzerland) SA, as Vice Chairman of auto-schweiz.
Search for Launaz's successor
Together with the other Vice-President Marcel Guerry, Managing Director of Emil Frey Switzerland, and Marc Langenbrinck, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Schweiz AG, they now form the five-member Board of auto-schweiz.
One of the most urgent tasks of the board is to find a successor for President François Launaz. He had already announced last year that he would be stepping down at the 2022 General Meeting.
No to the CO2 law
Other topics discussed at the virtual meeting of official vehicle importers included how to deal with the Corona crisis and the vote on the new CO2 law on June 13, 2021.
auto-schweiz had already supported the collection of signatures for a referendum and is also campaigning for a No vote in the referendum campaign. Director Andreas Burgener summarized the core of the criticism of the bill.
Andreas Burgener: "The CO2 reduction targets for new vehicles are completely undisputed. But the way the law wants to force us to achieve these targets we think is completely wrong."
Acceptance of the CO2 law would lead to significantly rising costs, both for individual motorized mobility and for the Swiss automotive industry, without having a major impact on effective CO2 emissions.
Andreas Burgener: "We are against the law because it is expensive, useless and unfair."
