Geneva Motor Show: relaunch in February 2022
HOPE IS STRIPPING AT LAST After an enforced break, car enthusiasts should be able to stroll through Palexpo in February 2022 at the Geneva International Motor Show. Instead of March, visitors will be welcomed in the Palexpo halls as early as mid-February, the organizers say. The Geneva Motor Show will be held from February 19 to 27, 2022, and will last only nine days instead of eleven.
Already interest from well-known manufacturers
François Launaz, Director of Auto-Switzerland and Vice President of the Exhibition Committee: "I think the new dates will be a matter of getting used to. Bringing it forward will not cause any problems for the exhibitors, well-known manufacturers have already expressed their interest in participating."
No obstacle for a renewed implementation
The disagreements between the owners of the exhibition halls and the GIMS Foundation after the cancellation at short notice in 2020 are apparently not an obstacle to holding the event again.
François Launaz: "You can't erase 90 years of history in Geneva, start over somewhere with a new project and build a reputation from scratch."
Business agreement with foreign partner
Whether the Geneva Motor Show will actually be held in February 2022 still depends on a business agreement with a foreign partner. François Launaz: "But we are confident that the partnership can be concluded soon. After that, the organization can officially begin. We expect fewer visitors compared to past salons. We will therefore remain reasonable with the budget."
Everything should be decided by the end of March.
Planning continues for IAA 2021 in Munich
For Munich's mayor Dieter Reiter, the starting position is clear: If the Oktoberfest cannot take place, the International Motor Show IAA (planned for September 6 to 12) must also be cancelled. The German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), which organizes the event, cannot understand this connection.
In a statement, it said, among other things: "The IAA cannot be compared to the Oktoberfest. That is why planning for the trade show continues."
Or not. The fate of the trade show, which represents an important item in the association's balance sheet, is to be discussed at a VDA board meeting in the near future.
