Auto Basel: The future awaits you

ALTERNATIVES Hardly any other product has changed as much in recent years as the car. Environmentally friendly drives are in vogue and more comfort increases the fun of individual mobility. Under the patronage of the Office for Environment and Energy, the "Drive-E Test Drive Fair" will be held in and around Hall 5 of Messe Basel on the occasion of Auto Basel from Thursday, 13 to Sunday, 16 September 2018. Here, interested parties can test drive purely electric vehicles from various brands, e-scooters and e-bikes and experience the driving experience of these technologies first-hand.

Alternative drives This general term refers to all vehicle drives that are not based purely on the energy supply of gasoline or diesel. These are drives based on electricity, hydrogen, fuel cells, hybrid, gas, biofuel. Of course, at Auto Basel you can also see new models of the best-known brands that are powered by gasoline or diesel. There is a lot to discover.

Growth of alternative drives important
In line with the "10/20" target of the auto-schweiz importers' association is the growth in alternative drives, whose market share in August was a high 7.6%. Of the 1628 corresponding passenger cars (+15.5% compared to August 2017), 313 or around one in five had a purely electric drive. With "10/20", auto-schweiz aims to have ten percent of all new passenger cars on the road in 2020 either driving purely electrically or as plug-in hybrids. The other forms of alternative drive (gas, hydrogen, hybrids) should also contribute to lowering the CO2 average.

Energy strategy 2050 not an easy target
François Launaz, President of auto-schweiz: "The Swiss automotive industry is committed to the targets set out in the Energy Strategy 2050 - even if the targets are anything but easy to achieve. Only with a high proportion of alternative drive systems - from purely electric vehicles and hybrids to gas and hydrogen cars - will it be possible to meet the strict CO2 targets from 2020, he said. That's why auto-schweiz has declared the 10/20 target and we are willing to create a double-digit percentage in the market share of electric cars and plug-in hybrids in 2020."
