Car subscriptions: Comparis checks seven providers
COMPARE FIRST The public transport offer is thinned out. Car subscriptions can be an alternative in this situation. The online comparison portal Comparis has compiled offers from providers. The SBB, for example, has implemented the largest timetable change in history. Sufferers of these measures are health care personnel, civil defense workers and retail employees. On certain days, the provider Carify has recorded up to three times as many requests as before the crisis.
The offers are attractive because they are not tied to any long-term contracts. In some cases, the minimum term is only one month.
Car is ready in two hours
Long waiting periods make little sense for mobility seekers in the current situation. Rental companies like Hertz have an advantage here because of their business model.
Hertz can provide the cars of the offer MiniLease within two hours. With other providers, delivery takes up to five working days.
Andrea Auer, Comparis mobility expert: "The difference stems from the fact that the vehicles at Hertz are usually already redeemed. However, the vehicles are not registered in the names of the owners. This can pose a problem for people living in cities, as Blue Zone parking cards are usually issued in the name of the car owner. Interested parties should therefore find out in which name the vehicle will be redeemed before signing a contract."
Minimum terms from one month
The minimum contract period for Carify, Hertz MiniLease and Flat Drive is one month. Three months is the minimum for Auto Kunz, Clyde and Upto.
Carvolution customers must commit to at least six months. The notice period is usually 30 days. Hertz MiniLease does not have a cancellation period.
Monthly installments start at 405 francs
Regarding the costs: The cheapest subscription in the offers analyzed by Comparis (as of March 23, 2020) is available at 405 francs per month with Carvolution.
Andrea Auer: "We are not observing a general price increase. Some providers would even have reduced fees in some cases. For example, the provider Auto Kunz waives the entry fee of 390 francs."
Lump sum for delivery service
With three of seven providers, the home delivery service is currently free of charge (Carify, Clyde, Hertz MiniLease). Carvolution (180 francs), Auto Kunz (240 francs) and Upto (250 francs) charge a flat fee.
Flat Drive calculates the delivery costs based on the time spent. The provider charges 50 francs per hour from the location in Langenthal (BE).
Andrea Auer says, "Subscribers should inquire about online vehicle instruction options before delivery. That way, physical contact can be avoided."
