Parking fees
Will there soon be parking spaces with numbered spaces and parking meters for motorized two-wheelers?

Background: The Federal Council is allowing Swiss cities and municipalities to charge parking fees not only for cars but also for motorized two-wheelers from 2021 in accordance with an amendment to the Signalling Ordinance (Art. 48b).

Several large Swiss cities are already considering introducing such a regulation as part of new parking concepts with numbered spaces and parking meters for two-wheelers.

Welcome new source of income
The motosuisse industry association is firmly opposed to such measures. It considers deterrence with parking fees to be counterproductive, as scooters and motorcycles take up much less space than cars.

Parking fees for two-wheelers are merely a welcome new source of income for municipal coffers. They would clearly run counter to decongesting city centers and reducing traffic congestion.

Advantages of scooters and motorcycles
The industry association points to the traffic and environmental benefits of motorized two-wheelers in cities and conurbations.

These include a smaller footprint, lower fuel consumption than a car, vehicle utilization of at least 50 percent, two-person capability, high agility, no searching for free parking spaces, environmentally friendly and safe technology with catalytic converters and ABS and, last but not least, the high protection factor in Corona times
