A word: The virus shows us limits
WHOLE PERSONAL It will certainly be some time before the industry has recovered from the effects of the corona virus. Auto journalist Walter Wuttke takes stock of the past week. Corona takes society to its limits. But it also reveals qualities that had long been forgotten. In an economy that is primarily profit-oriented and cold, humanity suddenly creeps in.
Strained health care system
In the automotive industry and its suppliers, managers are suddenly looking for ways to help the strained healthcare system. And act. At Bavarian supplier Zettl, respirators are now being sewn instead of covers for car seats. Soon, the company plans to produce tens of thousands of these life-saving aids per week.
Medical device production
ZF Friedrichshafen produces around 100,000 masks a day in Shanghai for its employees and the local population. Ferrari supports a medical company in the production of respirators. Ford and General Motors are considering the production of medical products.
Solutions in the fight against Covid-19
In Germany, the "Industry vs. Virus" platform has been created. Employees from Bosch, Audi, Volkswagen and the medical technology specialist Dräger have networked to find joint solutions in the fight against Covid-19.
Meanwhile, BASF is donating hand and disinfectant products for the Rhine-Neckar region. Mercedes-Benz wants to use its social media channels to help slow the spread of the virus. Volkswagen plans to support clinics with fever measuring and diagnostic equipment.
Wave of helpfulness
And many other companies are using their 3D printers to make vital parts. The wave of helpfulness is rolling, and it needs to keep rolling to eventually overtake the virus.
So everyone please keep up the good work. Work together. Only in this way will better times come again.
