AMG: a hypercar for its 50th birthday
AMG Do you know what these three letters stand for? "Aufrecht und Melcher, Grossaspach", as the company founded by Hans-Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher is called in full, is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2017 and today, as a wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler AG with 1,500 employees, forms the sporting spearhead of the Group. 2016 was a record year for Mercedes-AMG: the company reported almost 100,000 vehicles delivered [...]

2016 was for Mercedes-AMG a record year: the company reports almost 100,000 vehicles delivered (more than 40 percent growth) and a total of 18 overall victories and 32 other podium finishes by international customer and performance teams with the new Mercedes-AMG GT3. For 2017, the Affalterbach-based company announced the largest model offensive in the company's history, including a road-going hypercar with pure Formula 1 technology for the road. The hypercar will thus be the first purchasable vehicle with F1 hybrid drive and road approval. With a system output of over 1,000 hp and all-wheel drive with a fully electric front axle, it marks the pinnacle of what is currently technologically feasible.
It started five decades ago
Erhard Melcher and Hans-Werner Aufrecht were employees in the Mercedes-Benz development department until the mid-1960s. They set up their first workshop in an old mill in 1967, the "Ingenieurbüro - Konstruktion und Versuch zur Entwicklung von Rennmotoren". In 1971, their AMG 300 SEL 6.8 takes a completely unexpected victory in its class and second place overall in the 24-hour race at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. A further milestone is a cylinder head with modern valve technology, developed completely new and independently by Melcher.

In series since 1993
The cooperation with Mercedes-Benz began in 1990, and the C 36 AMG, the first vehicle developed on the basis of the cooperation agreement with Daimler-Benz, was launched in 1993. In 2005 Mercedes-AMG became a wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler AG and in 2009 presented the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, the first vehicle developed entirely by Mercedes-AMG. With the SLS AMG GT3, AMG spans the arc to racing in 2011. This was followed in 2014 by the unveiling of the Mercedes-AMG GT and in 2015 by the introduction of the 43 models, which are intended to introduce a broader target group to the brand. AutoSprintCH says: Happy Birthday!
