Thomas Hurter is the only candidate to be proposed to the Assembly of Delegates.

The election of the new Central President and successor to Urs Wernli will take place at the DM in June 2021. The outgoing Central President had drawn up the requirements and job profile for his successor as part of a selection process lasting several months, but was not involved in the nomination process at his own request.

Decisive criteria for the new AGVS Central President are entrepreneurial experience, resilience, multilingualism and political networking. The nomination committee of the garage association, consisting of representatives from various sections of all language regions, found these attributes in the person of the SVP National Councillor from Schaffhausen.

Optimally networked
Thomas Hurter is a business economist and holds an MBA. He is married and has two grown-up daughters.

He was a professional military pilot until 1993, since when he has worked as an airline pilot for Swiss. The 57-year-old has been a politician in the National Council since 2007, where he has made a name for himself as a member of the Committee for Transport and Telecommunications as an accomplished, dossier-savvy transport politician.

As Central President of the Automobile Club of Switzerland (ACS) and President of Aerosuisse, the umbrella organization of the Swiss aerospace industry, Thomas Hurter is very well connected.

Promises for the future of the AGSV
The AGVS has become increasingly involved in transport and trade policy issues in recent years and hopes that the new Central President will continue this commitment to the Swiss automotive industry as a systemically relevant sector and important industry at a national political level.

Thomas Hurter: "I want to be fully involved in these tasks and challenges and find solutions in the interests of the members. I am looking forward to the election with great anticipation."

Wernli will remain in office until June 2021
The current Central President will remain in office until the Assembly of Delegates on June 9, 2021 in Wettingen AG. Urs Wernli has led the AGVS since 2003 and developed the association into a modern and efficient service center for Swiss garage owners.

Today, the AGVS represents the interests of 4,000 member companies with around 39,000 employees.

Urs Wernli: "Transforming an entire industry from a garage to a mobility service provider is a fascinating task. I am convinced that Thomas Hurter is the ideal person to pilot our association into the future."
