AGVS: New rules for apprentices
Arnold Schöpfer is responsible at AGVS for basic technical training and higher technical vocational training.

A new training ordinance has been in force since January 1, 2018. Since September, AGVS vocational training officers have been touring Switzerland to inform members about the changes. And the Tour de Suisse continues (all dates can be found online).

The focus is on action skills

In order to inform the training companies about the changes, the AGVS training managers are on a roadshow through Switzerland. Previously, the subjects were electrics, electronics, physics, chassis, engine and power transmission. Teaching is now based on practical skills.

Basic training now comprises five areas.

For example, basic training as an automotive mechatronics technician comprises five areas of expertise: checking and maintaining vehicles, replacing wearing parts, supporting operational processes, checking and repairing systems and diagnosing mechatronic systems.

Education report instead of training control

Learners are obliged to keep learning documentation and discuss it with the vocational trainer every six months together with the training report. It replaces the previous training assessment. Arnold Schöpfer, responsible for basic technical training and advanced technical vocational training at the AGVS: "Another key point is the introduction of electronic teaching materials in vocational schools and inter-company courses."
