Exhaust gases: particulate filters show effect
ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION Many petrol engines with direct injection have increased emissions. This is why petrol engines are increasingly being fitted with a particulate filter in order to comply with the Euro 6d-Temp emissions standard. To this end, the ADAC has tested six new models with petrol particulate filters (OPF) for their exhaust and fuel consumption performance according to the Ecotest criteria. To this end, the ADAC tested six new models with gasoline particulate filters (OPF) for their exhaust and fuel consumption behavior according to the Ecotest criteria. The result: With OPF, the emissions of the BMW 218i and 230i, Mercedes-Benz A 200, Volvo XC40, VW Tiguan and VW up! GTI are significantly lower. They undercut the Euro 6d Temp standard and remain below the limit values when driven normally on the road.
The standard values are clearly undercut
The VW models in particular perform well: Their particulate emissions are between one tenth and one hundredth of the permitted limit. The Ecotest is a holistic view of a car's environmental behavior. In addition to pollutants, fuel consumption and the associated CO2 balance are also considered. Taking both aspects into account, between one and five stars are then awarded. Under extreme conditions on the test bench, there is only one outlier, the Volvo, which does not comply with the limit value for the number of particles.
Four stars for the little speedster from Wolfsburg
While the VW up! GTI and the Mercedes with clean exhaust emissions and moderate fuel consumption were awarded four stars and thus a recommendation, the two BMWs and the Tiguan were only awarded three stars. Their CO2 balance is not good enough, and the Tiguan also has higher CO emissions on the highway. The Volvo also has this, in addition to its increased particle values. In combination with the high fuel consumption due to the weight and the high body, it is only good enough for two stars.
