"These awards make us very proud," said Karl Neuhold, head of exterior design at the Czech manufacturer in the VW Group. "We seek beauty in simplicity and combine function with aesthetics. The lines of our vehicles are clearly and sharply drawn and inspired by the Bohemian art of crystal. We call it crystalline design. These elements are reflected in the exterior and interior. This is what makes our models so unique."
Crystalline design
The crystalline design is evident in the new Kodiaq SUV and the upgraded Octavia Combi, for example, in the structure of the headlights. According to the manufacturer, the inspiration for this sharpened design comes from traditional Czech glass craftsmanship. Accordingly, both the new large SUV and the compact bestseller impress with exceptional space, innovative connectivity solutions and numerous driver assistance systems that are usually only available in higher classes.
Innovative and functional
To receive the coveted design award, the products must convince in criteria such as degree of innovation, formal quality, functionality and ecological compatibility. The independent jury of the 'Red Dot Awards' discusses and judges each individual submission live and on site. Around 5,000 entries are received every year - this time from 54 countries. This makes it one of the best-known design competitions in the world.
