Motorsport: Racing club celebrates anniversary

On February 7, 1976, the Rennclub-Untertoggenburg (RCU) was founded in Niederwil. About 90 club members and some guests enjoyed the anniversary evening in Zuzwil. At this they did not have to study the driven times or bad results, but could give free rein to the sociability. Present were the longtime vice president Daniel Winterhalter and Niklaus Kunz, the successor of the founding president Heinrich Schweizer. The founding members Bruno Eigenmann, Hans Tschudin and Peter Brunner also did not miss the anniversary celebration, as did Hemberg's OC president Christian Schmid.
Club members come from all over Switzerland
On the day of the anniversary celebration, the RCU counted 194 members from all over Switzerland, of which 99 have a racing license valid for 2016. Although great importance is attached to socializing, which is reflected in the various fun events for the passive members, the main concern is the promotion of active drivers, young talent and motorsport in general. Many drivers compete in national and international races under the applicant license of the RCU. The most nationally successful RCU driver is slalom legend Fritz Erb from Hallau, who won the Sport Cup a total of ten times from 2001 until his retirement at the end of 2014. In 2015, Mitsubishi E1 driver Roger Schnellmann won the RCU Sport Cup ahead of Manuel Santonastaso and Peter Niederer.
