Exclusive special model: Porsche 911 GT3 RS as a tribute to Jo Siffert
Porsche is honoring the legendary Swiss racing driver Jo Siffert with a unique 911 GT3 RS. The vehicle can be seen in Switzerland from August and will be exhibited at Auto Zürich 2024.
Jo Siffert and the first 917 victory
With the 911 GT3 RS Tribute to Jo Siffert, Porsche is commemorating the first victory of the legendary 917, which Siffert won together with Kurt Ahrens in the 1,000-kilometer race in Zeltweg on August 10, 1969. This unique piece was manufactured by Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur as part of the special request program and will be on display in the Swiss Porsche Centers from August 2024.
Cult status and family involvement
Jo Siffert, the extremely talented and charismatic racing driver from Fribourg, still enjoys cult status in Switzerland 50 years after his death. His family, including his son Philippe and his grandson Jérémy, were closely involved in the development of this special 911 GT3 RS. Philippe Siffert emphasizes how exciting it was to witness the creation of this unique vehicle.
Design and historical details
The "Tribute" model is visually inspired by the 917 in which Jo Siffert and Kurt Ahrens won almost 55 years ago. The vehicle is mainly painted in purple-white and features viper green contrasting surfaces inspired by historical details of the 917. The starting number "29", the classic Porsche lettering and the Bosch and Shell sponsor stickers have been faithfully reproduced.
Exclusive equipment and individualization
The interior of the 911 GT3 RS has a dignified racing atmosphere with Race-Tex in black and Indian red. The headrests are adorned with the helmet motif and the door sill trims bear the 917 silhouette combined with Jo Siffert's signature. The vehicle key was also individually designed, underlining the exclusivity of this model.
Success story of the Porsche 917
Porsche owes much of the 1969 World Sports Car Championship to Jo Siffert, who was considered the team's fastest driver. The 917, which was equipped with a five-liter engine thanks to the new FIA regulations, dominated the races and won numerous victories. Siffert himself was not able to enjoy this success for long, as he tragically died in an accident during a Formula 1 race in 1971.
The special request program
With the newly interpreted special request program, Porsche offers personalized one-offs that are co-designed by customers and professionally implemented by Porsche. Interested parties can have their special wishes realized either directly during the production process or subsequently in order to receive a completely individual vehicle.
