Electric trucks: 180 charging points in Switzerland
THERE IS A NEED By 2030, 15 fast-charging hubs with a total of 180 charging points will be needed for electrically powered trucks along Switzerland's national roads.
As part of the Transport-CH commercial vehicle trade fair, the results of a study commissioned by companies from the electromobility and road transportation sectors and conducted by the consulting firm EBP were published. The study was presented by representatives of the Swiss Commercial Vehicle Association Astag, the Swiss Automobile Importers Association and the energy and infrastructure company BKW.
Development of the charging infrastructure
Electrically powered delivery vans and trucks are gaining momentum in Switzerland. Truck importers assume that the market share of heavy commercial vehicles will increase from just under five percent in 2022 to over 50 percent in 2030.
Andreas Burgener, Director of auto-schweiz: "Our commercial vehicle members are aware of this rapid development, as ambitious CO2-regulations for trucks are to be introduced. These are to be linked to the future CO2law also apply in Switzerland and can only be achieved with zero-emission vehicles. This requires an accelerated development and expansion of the charging infrastructure."
More than 130 gigawatt hours
According to the study, the charging demand for fast-charging hubs in Switzerland will be more than 130 gigawatt hours in 2030. Not all of the 180 or so charging points required would have to have the maximum charging capacity. 125 charging points with 1000 kilowatts and 55 charging points with 350 to 400 kilowatts of charging power will be needed to meet the demand for fast-charging options."
Silvan Rosser, head of the study. "Almost 60 percent of this is accounted for by demand from domestic e-trucks and around 20 percent each from foreign vehicles starting or arriving in Switzerland and e-trucks in transit."
