Miscellaneous activities
After various reorganizations, FHI was established in 1953 as the corporate name of several merged companies. At that time, the company expanded its activities from its previous aviation and industrial products to its current core business: The production and sale of automobiles under the Subaru brand. In 1958, the Subaru 360, the first vehicle of this new brand, was introduced, initially only in the Asian region.

Four-wheel drive pioneer
Subaru is now active in more than 90 countries worldwide and is regarded as the 4×4 pioneer with the greatest all-wheel drive expertise. In the current fiscal year ending March 31, 2017, Fuji Heavy Industries sold one million vehicles for the first time in the company's history and remains the world's No. 1 4×4 passenger car. As part of its medium-term management plan "Prominence 2020," the company aims to strengthen the Subaru brand. In this context, the renaming of FHI to Subaru Corporation is an important step.
