Mobility: Rental cars are available from SBB on order
ADVICE The car rental company Enterprise Switzerland and SBB are testing a new concept to promote multimodal mobility in the greater Zurich area for six months. Rental vehicles can be picked up at the train station.
The linking of road and rail transport continues to make progress. Urban mobility solutions are focusing in particular on rental vehicles, which can be used as a supplement depending on need and can be obtained flexibly at a location of choice.
In this way, SBB and Enterprise Switzerland want to establish the rental vehicle in combination with public transport as an alternative to the second car.
Booking via app and unlocking with smartphone
With Enterprise GO, customers can obtain their rental car independently. Anyone who registers on the associated app can check the availability of vehicles at the relevant stations after activating a personal user profile, book an individual rental period, and unlock the vehicle on site using their smartphone.
Enterprise GO has already successfully tested the innovative rental model for a year at various stations in cooperation with SBB.
One sharing car replaces around eleven owned vehicles
Thierry Gavoille, Member of the Executive Board of Helvetic Motion AG: "Shared mobility is growing rapidly. Now, road users can pre-order our vehicles one day in advance via our app and obtain them at SBB P+Rail facilities."
According to recent studies on the shared economy, a single rental vehicle replaces around eleven owned vehicles. This new mobility concept thus also aims to relieve urban traffic.
Peter Frey, Project Manager Carsharing at SBB, confirms: "SBB sees its stations as mobility hubs where easy access to public transport is possible. A variety of publicly accessible mobility offers everyone the chance to get rid of their own second car."
