Mercedes-Benz: The electric S-Class becomes an SUV 🎥
COMFORT AND POWER The Mercedes EQS SUV will join the EQS luxury sedan as a handsome SUV. It has up to 544 hp, is due in 2022 and is expected to have a range of 660 kilometers. First info, data, pictures.
Once the platform has been fully developed, things go from strength to strength. The best examples are the Mercedes EQS and EQE: Both electric sedans made their debuts within a year. And less than a year later, the Swabians are launching the third model with the same architecture, the EQS SUV.

Aerodynamic fine tuning in detail
All body details of the 5.13-meter SUV have been given aerodynamic fine-tuning. This ranges from the lower profiling of the running boards to special aero rims and the tear-off edge of the roof spoiler.
During tuning in the wind tunnel, thought was even given to camera mirrors, which would offer much less resistance to the wind than ordinary mirrors. But the displays for the mirrors would permanently draw current - and that comes from the drive battery.
The speed is then reduced to 210 km/h
The EQS SUV is technically closely related to the EQS luxury sedan, and the skateboard platform is identical. It will initially be launched in three variants: the EQS 450+ produces 265 kW (360 hp) and 568 Newton meters of torque from a rear-mounted electric motor that only drives the rear axle. The drive system is designed for a long range and is expected to cover up to 660 kilometers on a fully charged battery.
Above that, there are two versions with an additional front engine and all-wheel drive: The EQS 450 4-Matic also produces 265 kW, but delivers an impressive 800 Nm of torque. The range shrinks slightly to a maximum of 613 kilometers. And the EQS 580 4-Matic gets 400 kW (544 hp) and 858 Nm of torque from the same drive layout. The speed is limited at 210 km/h.
Plenty of room for seven people and luggage
The EQS SUV shines with versatile features. Up to seven people can sit in the rounded body, and the luggage compartment can hold up to 2100 liters, depending on the variant. It can also go far off paved roads: The all-wheel-drive models have an off-road program and a ground clearance of 181 millimeters, which can be increased by 25 millimeters at the touch of a button.
After all, the bulky SUV can tow 1.8 tons. That's barely more than half as much as the GLS, but it's an unusually good figure for an electric car.
The cockpit comes from the EQS sedan
The interior of the SUV presents a familiar picture. The cockpit has been adopted 1:1 from the sedan. The hyperscreen - which also costs extra for the SUV - is already in high demand in the EQS sedan. The display, brilliance and responsiveness are excellent, and operation and menu navigation are intuitive.
The basic layout, internally called Zero Layer, always forms the navigation map. The other options are sorted above it. Everything is quick to grasp and easy to understand. And if you don't want to click, press or swipe, you can use the voice control.
Certifications for semi-autonomous driving
The same applies to the electronic assistants, of which the SUV is also teeming. Mercedes recently received certification for semi-autonomous driving. The EQS SUV is therefore likely to be the first electric SUV that can be driven autonomously at Level 3.
Prices and equipment for Switzerland are not yet known.
